Lee Panizza is an Australian born, British artist living in South-East Cornwall. This solo exhibition is a very visual affair, playing with ambivalent visual clues.
Her work is an inquiry into abstraction. It is always about perception and light, with recurring references to earth and sky. The result is semi-geometric, expressive compilations of layers and shadows, ranging from traditional oil paintings to quirky painted jigsaw puzzle pieces.
These compressed exercises in time and space have the atmosphere of portentous change. The complexities of multiple light sources and unexpected shadows evoke a sense of hidden meanings on the verge of explanation.
The works are both serious and fun: dynamic, beautiful and occasionally witty.
