Loving Land & Sea
5th October 2017 - 28th October 2017
Having exhibited across the globe, Barbara de Mora is holding an exhibition of paintings to celebrate living in Plymouth. Each work focuses on the local life round and about the city’s shoreline.
Loving Land & Sea takes a delightful romp along the coast and quays of Plymouth. This collection promises a display of imaginative snapshots of local life, in which the every-day and mythological combine. As Barbara describes her latest work, her paintings “are colourful and cheerful, showing people, animals and birds, and the relationshops between them. You might even find a mermaid or two watching the shoreline activity!”
Her inspiration ranges from British artists Beryl Cook and Stanley Spencer to the landscapes of the Group of Seven in Canada and Frida Kahlo’s work. Explore the paintings of Barbara de Mora for yourself, on show in our Cells from 5th October. Admission is entirely free, and you’ll be able to indulge in the delectable delights of Column Bakehouse whilst there!
