Alice Butler, or jokingly known as ‘Alice Alice’ among friends, is a young contemporary visual artist, who grew up in and now studies in Cornwall. She uses a wide variety of artistic languages, often creating synergy between the digital and physical worlds. Using deep and saturated colours, one of her strongest influences is Vaporwave; a niche part of internet culture which emerged in the early 2010’s with very specific visual and audio aesthetics.
Although being an internet-native and having access to the whole world through a computer, Alice is still influenced by the profound spiritual culture and folklore of Cornwall. This connection to Cornwall shines through in the imaginary worlds she creates by piecing together imagery from anywhere and everywhere. Alice has shown her versatility through beginnings in painting, progressing to print making, digital collage, videos and installation. No one can predict what route her art might take after she graduates from Falmouth University in July.
Exhibition opening times: 9am – 3pm Monday to Saturday.
